Purpose
Team Kenya works with others to empower communities in Western Kenya to overcome poverty, injustice and inequality. We do this by encouraging sustainable development and the use of appropriate technologies and by providing training and advice.
Who are we?
We are an independent organisation registered as a charity, with partners, volunteers and supporters in the UK and Kenya. We act as an umbrella organisation for other community groups in Western Kenya providing a forum for the sharing & exchange of information.
We develop programme's & solutions that empower people.
What do we do?
- Enable people of all ages to fully participate in our activities by getting involved here in the UK or becoming part of the community in Kenya
- Enable young people in Kenya and the UK to communicate with each other to share ideas and knowledge, motivate them through personal contact
- Provide support to communities in Western Kenya particularly Ndhiwa Community Empowerment and Development Project
- Use ICT's to promote sustainable development
- Promote sustainable development by encouraging preservation, conservation, protection of the environment and prudent use of resources, allowing communities to achieve sustainable economic growth and regeneration.
Promote networking to share information and advice & provide access to advice and support from experts in relevant fields including technology and environmental issues.
- Set up microfinance programmes for individual & community programmes such as bee keeping, farming, irrigation projects, water collection and treatment and improved sanitation
- Empower communities to develop capacity and skills with particular emphasis on girls and women
- Sponsor students for vocational training courses, high school & further and higher education
- Provide resources for micro finance programmes for sustainable community income generating projects such as, agro forestry, sustainable agriculture, ceramic Jikos/stoves & water filters.
- Monitor and evaluate such programmes in terms of raised standard of living of individuals, improved quality of life, changes in individual and community groups' behaviour and the environmental impact.
- Provide facilities and resources, for individual and group activities, including facilitating, organising and running courses & other training opportunities including ICT
Provide teaching and learning resources, including books, computer software, equipment & resources for recreational & leisure pursuits for young people
